European computer manufacturers association (ECMA)

European Computer Manufacturers Association (ECMA) is a body in which the European computer manufacturers are united to develop draft industrial standards for data processing. These drafts are passed on by ECMA to the national standardization bodies for adoption.

ECMA has been instrumental in developing many of the existing ISO standards. Its members are European computer manufacturers. Standards are developed for data processing systems and communications protocols. The standards adopted by ECMA are often adopted in IEC standards and ISO standards, as well as in ITU-T recommendations. ECMA thus exerts a considerable influence on international standardization.

ECMA was founded in 1961 and is based in Geneva, Switzerland.
