The Europe Online service is the counterpart to America Online, which is very successful in the USA. The service was set up in 1995 and offers a Europe-wide commercial online service. EOL can be used by closed user groups as well as by end users. Europe Online is operated by Europe Online S.A., based in Luxembourg. Shareholders include the British Pearson Group with the Financial Times and the French media group Matra Hateche. The service is offered in multiple languages.
The EOL service was discontinued at the end of the 1990s.
