Euro ISDN

With the signing of a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) by 26 network operators

from 20 European countries, agreement was reached on the introduction of a common European ISDN standard in 1993.Euro-ISDN offers among

other things a transparent transmission service with 64 kbit/s, an audio transmission service with 3.1 kHz and 7 kHz bandwidth, transmission of the caller's number to the called subscriber, suppression of the transmission of the caller's number, direct dialling to extensions in PABXs, multiple call numbers as well as replugging at the passive bus of the multi-device connection. The basis of Euro-ISDN are the ITU recommendations for layers 1 to 3. Layer 1 is based on the interface

according to I.430, Layer 2 on the protocols according to Q.920/921 and Layer 3 on Q.930/931. In addition, thesignaling protocol DSS1

has been defined for Euro-ISDN.Deutsche Telekom will offer the basic access bil ingually together with the national 1TR6 protocol

for theD channel

. For this purpose, Deutsche Telekom will provide interworking units in all ISDN exchanges where the protocol conversion will take place.Euro-ISDN enables cross-border communication with a high level of data security and a relatively high transmission speed

forpublic networks. The spectrum of applications ranges from file transfer and fax transmission to video applications. Cross-border communication must be compatible not only in the signalling protocols, but also in the signalling between the international exchanges of the countries concerned. For this purpose, Euro-ISDN, like ISDN, uses the central signalling channel (ZZK) No. 7. The interface to the switching processes

isformed by the IS

DN user part

(ISUP). The connections in Euro-ISDN correspond to those of the national ISDN with the basic connection and the primary multiplex connection.

In Euro-ISDN, data packet transmission in the D channel with 9.6 kbit/s and in the B channel with up to 64 kbit/s is possible, also data transmission with data terminal equipment according to X.25.
