Ethernet private line (EPL)
The Metro Ethernet Forum( MEF) has defined several Ethernet services for Carrier Ethernet: E-Line, E-Tree, and E-LAN, and for Carrier Ethernet 2.0, additionally E-Access.
E-Line is offered by providers in two variants: the Ethernet Private Line ( EPL) and the Ethernet Virtual Private Line( EVPL).
Ethernet Private Line allows providers to establish a point-to-point connection between two subscriber network interfaces( UNI) and assign high transparency to customer-owned data packets. However, this requires a dedicated physical interface. Ethernet Private Line has only a low coordination effort with the provider and can be used as a replacement for classic leased lines.
