EtherLoop

EtherLoop is a technology for the connection area that can be seen as an alternative to DSL methods and Long Reach Ethernet( LRE). EtherLoop transmits Ethernet frames with burst volumes and also ADSL and HDSL.

The method developed by Nortel achieves transmission rates of between 128 kbit/s and 6 Mbit/s in the upstream and downstream and does so over distances of up to 7 km.

EtherLoop transmits in half- duplex because this transmission mode is less susceptible to interference between adjacent transmission lines. Therefore simple telephone cables can be used for the transmission and not only TP cables with higher categories. As with Ethernet and with DSL, transmission takes place via a point-to-point connection, in which a connection is established between the server and the client.
