EPON over coax (EPoC)

EPON over Coax (EPoC) is an approach to transmit the EPON protocol over coaxial broadband networks.

This approach is intended to achieve data rates of 1 Gbit/s or even 10 Gbit/s in both the downstream and upstream. The configuration of the upstream and downstream are independent of each other. The transmission can be symmetric and asymmetric in full duplex and can be implemented without significant changes of EPON sublayers. EPoC uses a line coding as coding. The data rate of 10 Gbit/s can only be achieved if the channel conditions allow it.

EPoC is suitable for point-to-multipoint transmission of Internet television( IPTV) between an optical line termination( OLT) and multiple optical network units( ONU).
