E-mail waiting indication (Internet) (EWI)

The E-Mail Waiting Indication (EWI) informs the Internet subscriber when his mailbox has received an Internet mail.

The EWI information reaches the subscriber via the telephone cables, both with analog and digital transmission using ISDN. The message is transmitted in the form of an interrupted dial tone, as an announcement or, if possible, via the telephone display. For this purpose, the terminal must be equipped with the Message Waiting Indication( MWI) proposed by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute ( ETSI).
