Data in Motion

Data in Motion is moving data that moves through a network or is transferred from a terminal device to a cloud service, from a client to a web server, or from a mail server to the inbox of the email client. Data in motion is also referred to as data in flight.

Data can have a static state and be at rest, such as during storage, or it can be transferred and move from one entity to another. When they reach another unit, they change from the dynamic state to the static state. Thus, moving data in an email becomes dormant data once it reaches the client's inbox.

Data in motion is vulnerable to man-in-the-middle( MitM) attacks. That's why data in motion is encrypted or transmitted via secured tunnels, making it difficult for hackers or snoopers to access transmitted data.
