Cryptolocker

CryptoLocker malware is an encrypted ransomware Trojan that infiltrates personal computers and completely blocks them. Cryptolocker encrypts all files and can spread on its own. It searches for specific file extensions of text, document, photo, music, video or presentation files, which it encrypts with a 1024-bitkey using RSA encryption.

Associated with the file encryptions is the requirement of a ransom for decryption. With computers blocked by CryptoLocker, users no longer have any access to files.

The ransomware Trojan makes its demands for decrypting the computer on the screen. Bitcoins are demanded as a payment method or a transaction that leaves no traces on the Internet. Along with the payment request, a deadline is also mentioned and in case of non- compliance, it threatens to destroy the private key. Upon payment of the ransom, the cybercriminals deliver a functional digital key (hopefully) with which the files can be decrypted again.
