Braille tablet

Braille terminals are for the visually impaired and blind. Previous computer-basedsystems used a Braille line with mechanically raised or lowered pins to display Braille characters.

Researchers at the University of Michigan have developed a Braille tablet on whose display the Braille characters are generated by small bubbles created using a microfluid process. They are filled with air or a liquid.

A corresponding screen can contain up to 10,000 dots and complete pages of text but also graphics can be displayed. Thus, the output is no longer limited to a Braille line.
