With the wireless email service, emails can be received, sent and forwarded through the email client. E-mails arriving at the mail server are sent to the Blackberry client in compressed form as push e-mails in near real time and do not have to be collected from the mail server as is usually the case. In addition, the receipt of an e-mail can be confirmed with an acoustic signal. In always-on mode, the devices remain permanently connected to the mail server via the packet-switched GPRS network or via High Speed Downlink Packet Access( HSDPA). Email attachments are converted to a text format so that downloading can be stopped ahead of time if necessary.

For Internet service, BlackBerry has a smartphone browser that supports special functions. Protocol support includes all major Internet protocols such as Post Office Protocol( POP), Internet Message Access Protocol( IMAP), Simple Mail Transfer Protocol( SMTP) or those from AOL, Microsoft-Net or Yahoo. For voice services, telephone services such as call forwarding, conference calling, speakerphone or call waiting are supported.

The mobile data service supports Extensible Markup Language(XML), Hypertext Markup Language( HTML) and Wireless Markup Language(WML) and allows users to access data via the Blackberry browser or Java applications. In a special version, the Blackberry has the functionality of multimedia smartphones: camera, playing video clips and MP3 player.
