AirDrop

AirDrop is a file sharing system developed by Apple for MacIntoshs and iOS mobile devices running Mac OS X and iOS 7operating system. With AirDrop file sharing, x-any files of photos, videos, music, notes and other files can be shared between MacIntoshes, iPhones, iPads and iPods. The operating system takes over the control.

Airdrop works with both Bluetooth and WiFi, with Bluetooth detecting devices with AirDrop enabled and establishing a secure connection to the corresponding end device, and WiFi providing fast data transfer. The data rate is between 12 MB/s and 15 MB/s and depends on the reception field strength. The mentioned values are achieved within a radius of one meter. The permissible distances are less than ten meters.

The direct connection between two end devices ensures that the files are not transferred over the Internet, but only between the two connected computers. The connection is encrypted with the TLS protocol, Transport Layer Security (TLS), and sets up a firewall between the two communication partners so that no third person can gain unauthorized access via the connection.
