Adobe font metrics (typeface) (AFM)

Adobe Font Metrics (AFM) is the standard file format for Adobe fonts. It describes a font that is ASCII and plain- text readable.

AFM files are used primarily in Unix environments and support both global metrics for font programs and metrics with individual characters. AFM files have the extension *.afm.

In addition to Adobe Font Metrics (AFM), the following are also known: Adobe Multiple Font Metrics (AMFM) and Adobe Composite Font Metrics (ACFM), which are three different variants of the same file format.
