AV2 standard (HomePlug) (AV2)

With AV2, HomePlug has significantly expanded its AV standard for powerline communication( PLC) via the power grid. The technology used in Broadband Powerline( BPL) had a data rate of 200 Mbit/s in the initial phase, which was increased to 1 Gbit/s with AV2.

AV2 technology integrates the IEEE 1901 standard and provides five times the data rate. AV2 is compatible with devices based on the AV standard, but these operate at a lower data rate. AV2 operates in the extended frequency range between 2 MHz and 68 MHz, with the Gigle chipset even up to 305 MHz, and uses Multiple Input Multiple Output( MIMO), as used in the wireless technologies 802.11n and 802.16e, to increase the available data rate and range.

The achievable transmission speed of 1 Gbit/s is perfectly sufficient to simultaneously transmit various HDTV streams. In addition, repeaters and routers can be used in AV2 networks. The corresponding networks allow three and more nodes. This expansion allows the ultra- high data rate to be used throughout the home network.
