8 bit code
The 8-bit code is based on the 7-bit code, which has been extended to include language groups and is oriented to world regions.
Thus, with Latin 1, there are code elements for the Western European languages, as well as for America, Australia and Africa. Latin 2 fulfills the requirements for the Eastern European languages. Furthermore, there are special code elements for the Hebrew, Cyrillic, Arabic or other languages.
In the 8-bit code, the byte is the smallest representable unit. With this coder 256 characters can be represented binary.
