128b130b encoding

With PCI Express 3.0, the previous 8B/10B coding is replaced by 128B/130B coding.

The 128B/130B coding is characterized by a low overhead of only 1.6 percent, which means that the increasing power requirement at the transfer rate of 8 GB/s per lane is considerably lower than that of the 8B/10B coding, which has an overhead of 20 percent. However, along with the reduction in power requirements, the complexity of the logics increases. Therefore, significantly more logic gates are required in a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA).
