10 gigabit media independent interface (XGMII)

XGMII (10 Gigabit Media Independent Interface) is the interface between the MAC layer and the physical layer in 10 Gigabit Ethernet

. XGMII connects ports with each other and with other electronic modules in full duplex. The signal transmitted over XGMII consists of 32 receive signals and transmit signals and two control signals. With XGMII, which is mainly used at board level, a maximum physical length of only 7 cm can be bridged. An extension is made via the XAUI.
