drive
The term drive is generally used for mass storage devices that work under an operating system. Generally, a distinction is made between external and internal drives, whereby the latter are not integrated into the computer but are connected to it via a connection cable.
Mass storage devices include: Hard disk drives, removable disk drives, floppy disk drives, CD drives, DVD drives, RAM disks and tape drives connected via Enhanced Integrated Drive Electronics( EIDE), Small Computer System Interface( SCSI) or Advanced Technology Attachment ( ATA).
For better identification of drives by the operating system and the user, there is an operating system-dependent drive mapping, where drives or individual partitions of them are identified by letters.
