Der Routing Information Indicator (RII) besteht aus einem einzelnen Bit in der MAC-Adresse der Source-Station. Es wird auch Source Routing Bit genannt und ist das erste Bit der Quelladresse, das Most Significant Bit (MSB); dieses Bit geht also dem eigentlichen Adressumfang verloren.

Routing Information Indicator, RII

Der Routing Information Indicator zeigt an ob das Datenpaket überhaupt eine Routing-Information bzw. ein Routing-Informationsfeld enthält. Hat der Routing Information Indicator den Wert "0" (RII = 0), dann hat das Datenpaket kein Routing-Informationsfeld. Bei RII = 1 ist dagegen ein Routing-Informationsfeld vorhanden und kann interpretiert werden.
