web distributed authoring and versioning (WebDAV)

Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) ist ein Kommunikationsprotokoll zwischen Content-Management-Systemen ( CMS) und Clients.

Bei WebDAV handelt es sich um eine Art Netzwerk-Dateisystem für das Internet. Mit WebDAV können Anwender und Administratoren den Content auf Webservern pflegen. Darüber hinaus kann es als Zugriffsprotokoll für CMS- Systeme eingesetzt werden.

WebDAV unterstützt u.a. die Verwaltung von Metadaten, die Zugriffskontrolle, die Namens- und Versionsverwaltung. Da WebDAV auf HTTP basiert, kann es mit HTML, dem Graphics Interchange Format ( GIF) oder JPEG arbeiten. WebDAV ist standardisiert und unter RFC 2518 und RFC 3253 beschrieben.
